Hayleys' Story
I have spent over 6 months volunteering in eduction development in a small village in Ghana called Kokrobite. Ghana is now another place to call 'Home'. I absolutely fell in love with the people, the culture and their incredible talents. Unfortunately, these talents are almost never recognised. After my second time leaving Ghana, I simply felt like the potential of the ladies in this village needs to be recognised. People need to see the beauty of Ankara print! I have always had a love for fashion, styling and creation from a young age. During my time in Ghana, I just couldn't get enough of the vibrancy, colours and patterns of Anakara cloth. I enjoyed creating my own styles with different cloths during my time in Ghana and watching the tailors bring them to life. After returning home, I decided I wanted to do something about this. Of course, as expected there has been many hurdles along the journey, but I knew this was a risk worth taking. I hope that Akoma Mór can give back to the community in more ways than you can imagine. I want to show people in my own culture what inspires me about Ghana and why Ghana has taken a piece of my heart forever. I am excited to introduce a new world of designs to Ireland with the hope that it can inspire others and bring Akoma Mór to life.
